Word Counter: workflow and output
Count whitespace-separated words, characters and lines from a text file. Use it to check a draft or description before moving it into another system.
How to use Word Counter
- Save the final draft as a readable text file and select it.
- Run the count.
- Read the TXT report and compare it with the destination’s own counter.
Example and result checks
Words are counted by separating non-empty trimmed text on whitespace. Characters include spaces and line breaks; a trailing newline can add a line.
What this tool does not do
Different editors may count hyphenated words or languages without spaces differently. This tool reads a selected file rather than providing a paste box.
Troubleshooting and choosing the right workflow
If the count seems wrong, check whether the file contains markup or extra headings. For an official word limit, the receiving platform’s counting rules take precedence.
