Text SHA-256: workflow and output
Calculate SHA-256 over the UTF-8 bytes of text entered in the tool. It is useful for checking that two exact text strings are identical.
How to use Text SHA-256
- Enter the text into the Text field, including the intended spaces and line breaks.
- Run the calculation.
- Copy or download the hexadecimal result for comparison.
Example and result checks
The input abc produced ba7816bf8f01cfea414140de5dae2223b00361a396177a9cb410ff61f20015ad. Adding a newline or a space changes the fingerprint.
What this tool does not do
This is not encryption and is not a suitable password-storage system by itself. Visually similar characters can have different underlying Unicode representations.
Troubleshooting and choosing the right workflow
If hashes differ, compare whitespace, line endings and character encoding. Use File SHA-256 instead when the subject is an entire file, not just text copied out of it.
