Password Strength

Password Strength: workflow and output

Estimate a password’s characteristics locally from length and the presence of upper-case letters, lower-case letters, numbers and symbols.

How to use Password Strength

  1. Use a test candidate or a password you are authorised to evaluate.
  2. Run the estimate and read Weak, Good or Strong feedback.
  3. Use the feedback as one check alongside uniqueness and length.

Example and result checks

The score awards checks for lengths of at least 12 and 20 characters and for each character category. It does not search a leaked-password database.

What this tool does not do

Predictable phrases can score well even when they are poor choices. This is a simple heuristic, not a guarantee against guessing or a breach check.

Troubleshooting and choosing the right workflow

Prefer a long unique password stored in a password manager. Avoid reusing an existing password merely because this tool labels it Strong.
