MIME Inspector: workflow and output
Read the MIME type supplied by the browser for a chosen file. It helps explain why a form sees a file as image/png, application/pdf or an unknown type.
How to use MIME Inspector
- Select the file you plan to upload elsewhere.
- Process and read the returned type.
- Download the small TXT report if you need to include it in a support request.
Example and result checks
An image may be reported as image/png while a text file may be reported as text/plain. Empty type metadata is shown as unknown.
What this tool does not do
The tool does not examine file signatures to certify the real format. A browser-reported MIME type can be incomplete or wrong, and renaming an extension does not convert a file.
Troubleshooting and choosing the right workflow
Use the original application to export a supported format if the receiver rejects it. Compare File Info when you also need the filename and byte size.
