Image Brightness

Brightness: workflow and output

Adjust an image’s brightness by shifting colour-channel values. This can help a moderately dark photo, but it cannot recreate detail missing from the source.

How to use Brightness

  1. Choose an image and start with a modest Amount adjustment.
  2. Use a positive value to lighten or a negative value to darken.
  3. Inspect highlights and shadows in the PNG preview.

Example and result checks

The Amount control ranges from -100 to 100. Large positive adjustments can push highlights to solid white; large negative adjustments can lose shadow detail.

What this tool does not do

This is a uniform adjustment across the image, not selective exposure recovery. It does not automatically correct white balance or reduce noise.

Troubleshooting and choosing the right workflow

If faces look washed out, reduce Amount. For flat-looking images, compare Contrast separately instead of increasing brightness until highlights are clipped.
