PDF → Text: workflow and output
Extract the selectable text layer from a PDF into a UTF-8 text file. Choose this when you need plain text for searching, editing or moving information into another application.
How to use PDF → Text
- Choose a PDF with a readable text layer.
- Run the extraction and inspect the text preview.
- Download the TXT result; compare important names and figures against the PDF.
Example and result checks
A two-page test document exported the text from both pages, with blank lines separating pages. The output is plain text rather than a replica of the page.
What this tool does not do
This tool does not recognise words inside scans. Reading order can differ for multi-column pages and tables because the PDF stores positioned text fragments.
Troubleshooting and choosing the right workflow
An empty result usually means the page is an image or has no usable text layer. For scans use OCR; for copying the visual page use PDF to Images.
Related workflow
PDF → Images offers a different operation; choose it only when that result matches your task.
